Salt Fork Lodge Donates Lightly-Used Mattresses
Inspiring Others to Make a Difference
Giving back to the communities we live and work in is at the heart of our company. Yes, we exist to serve our guests and provide them with the best experience possible, but we also use our talents and means to help those who need it most.
Our properties have taken it upon themselves to find ways to give a helping and healing hand in the communities they serve. When it was time for Salt Fork Lodge & Conference Center in Cambridge, Ohio to purchase new mattresses, they knew exactly what to do with their lightly-used ones—donate them.
Moving the mattresses out of the rooms was no easy task. Employees from every department worked together to carry them down flights of stairs and load them into trucks. Although it was hard work, everyone felt a sense of pride, knowing these mattresses would provide comfort to someone else.
People across the globe and close to home will benefit from Salt Fork’s donation. The bunk beds were shipped to Africa through Christian Aid Ministries and given to orphanages. For many of these little ones, this will be their first time sleeping on an actual bed. The hope is that these children feel a greater sense of security and comfort when they lie their heads down to rest.
And at home, the mattresses were sent throughout the country to communities ravaged by recent hurricanes and natural disasters. Many people lost their homes and are starting the rebuilding process. Mattresses were also donated to a non-profit thrift store in northern Ohio. All proceeds go to the Ohio Wilderness Boys Camp, whose mission is to help boys with behavior challenges.
“It’s empowering and inspiring to see our properties lead the charge in projects like this one,” said Tom Arvan, Director of State Parks. “They are touching the lives of so many and are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.”
A mattress can have many meanings. It may symbolize hope for some and comfort for others. We hope Salt Fork’s donation inspires others to make a positive difference, no matter how small.
